Shirley Extends Points Lead with Third MMS Win at LincolnTwenty-seven MMS Late Models were at Lincoln Speedway on Sunday night for event eight of the season. Friday night's feature winner Eric Smith of Shirley was fast qualifier and took the win in Sheppard Car Crushing Heat 1 over Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, and Matt Furman. Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat 2 was won by MMS points leader Brian Shirley of Chatham over Dillan White of Hopkinsville, KY, and Michael Kloos of Trenton. Steve Sheppard Jr. of New Berlin was victorious in Pick A Part Indy Heat 3 over Jason Feger of Bloomington, and Ryan Unzicker of El Paso. Frank Heckenast Jr. of Frankfort grabbed the Semi Feature win over Brian Harris of Davenport, IA, and Roger Brickler. In the feature, Shirley would jump out to a commanding lead and hold off a late charge from Feger to take the win and double his MMS points lead. Smith Victorious at Farmer City for First MMS Win of SeasonAfter nearly a two month break, the Monster Midwest Series was back in action Friday night at the Farmer City Raceway for event seven of the season. Eric Smith of Shirley was the fast qualifier of the 18 Late Models on hand. Smith followed that up by taking the win in Sheppard Car Crushing Heat 1 over Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, and Brian Harris of Davenport, IA. Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat 2 was won by Jason Feger of Bloomington over Dillan White of Hopkinsville, KY, and Ryan Unzicker of El Paso. In the feature, Smith, who started on the pole, stayed out front to take the $2,000 top prize. Erb Jr. was second, White third, Unzicker fourth, and Joe Harlan of El Paso fifth. Local Favorite Martin Grabs First MMS Win at HighlandSaturday night the Monster Midwest Series was at the Highland Speedway for night six of the season. 26 MMS Late Models were in attendance with Greg Johnson quickest in qualifying and followed that up by taking the win in Sheppard Car Crushing Heat 1 over Ryan Unzicker and Mark Faust. Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat 2 went to Chad Zobrist followed by Matt Wiedner and Charley Hess. Frankie Martin was victorious in Pick A Part Indy Heat 3 over Clay Bauman and Brian Diveley. The Semi Feature win went to Mike Schulte. In the feature, it was local favorites Martin and Zobrist leading the way as Martin grabbed his first MMS win followed by Zobrist, Johnson, Brandon Sheppard, and Hess. In Sheppard Car Crushing Heat 1 it was Bloomington's Eric Smith victorious over Unzicker and Brian Shirley of Chatham. Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat 2 saw Charley Hess of Peoria taking the checkers followed by Joe Harlan of El Paso and Brian Harris of Davenport, IA. Jay Sparks took the win in Pick A Part Indy Heat 3 with Scott Bull of Fairbury and Richie Hedrick of Urbana to follow. In the feature it was MMS points leader Shirley making it two in a row and extending his points lead. He was followed across the line by Bull, Harlan, Smith, and Unzicker. Shirley Captures MMS Win at PVCS29 MMS Late Models were on hand Sunday night at Pierce's Vermilion County Speedway for stop number four of the MMS season. Eric Smith clocked in quickest in qualifications at 13.397 seconds and followed that up by taking the win in Sheppard Car Crushing Heat 1 over Richie Hedrick and Curtis Roberts. Jeep Van Wormer was victorious in Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat 2 over Brian Shirley and Kevin Weaver. Pick A Part Indy Heat 3 went to Kent Robinson followed by Ryan Unzicker and Rusty Schlenk. Bobby Pierce took the Semi-Feature win.The re-draw of the top two finishers in each heat would see Shirley and Robinson in row one, Unzicker and Van Wormer in row two, with Hedrick and Smith in row three. Shirley would utilize his front row start to take the $2,000 win over Van Wormer, Brian Harris, Unzicker, and Smith. With the win, Shirley would also take over the MMS points lead. Babb & Harris Score MMS Wins at LincolnThe Monster Midwest Series returned to the Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night to make up their rained out feature from April 2nd and also run another full show. 25 MMS Late Models were in attendance with Shannon Babb taking fast time honors. Babb followed that up by taking the win in Sheppard Car Crushing Heat 1 over Jason Feger and Dennis Erb Jr. but not before a great three wide battle, swapping the lead back and forth with Feger. In Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat 2 it was Brian Shirley victorious over Ryan Unzicker and Derek Chandler. The final heat, Pick A Part Indy Heat 3, was won by Brian Harris over Steve Sheppard Jr. and Brandon Sheppard.Eric Smith took the Semi-Feature win over Joe Harlan and Scott Schmitt. The re-draw of the top two finishers in each heat race would see Unzicker & Harris in row one, Feger & Shirley in row two, and Sheppard & Babb in row three. In the feature, a great three wide battle for the lead between Feger, Shirley, and Babb with Sheppard Jr. also in the mix. Shirley's run would end on lap 24 when the 3S went off the frontstretch burm after getting caught up in lap traffic. When the race resumed, another three wide battle for the lead between Sheppard, Babb, and Erb until a caution would fly for the infield tire rolling across the track after being hit. When the race resumed it was Babb holding off Sheppard Jr. and Erb to collect the $2,000 check. In the make-up feature from April 2nd, it was Iowan Brian Harris taking the $2,000 win. Voigt Takes First MMS Feature of 2010The Monster Midwest Series was at the Tri-City Speedway Friday night for event two of the 2010 season. 34 Late Models were on hand. Sheppard Car Crushing Heat 1 went to Brian Shirley, over Wendell Wallace, and Dewayne Kiefer. Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat 2 was won by Jason Feger, followed by Shannon Babb, and Craig Smith. Mark Voigt took Pick A Part Indy Heat 3 over Rickey Frankel and Billy Laycock. The fourth and final heat, Double H Crane Service and Porta Pottie Rental Heat 4, was won by Dennis Erb Jr., over Ryan Unzicker, and Skylar Marlar. The Semi Feature went to Mark Oller with Tyler Reddick and Kevin Weaver to follow. In the feature it was Voigt picking up the $3,000 win over Shirley, Wallace, Feger, and Unzicker. Mother Nature Wins MMS Season OpenerThe Monster Midwest Series opened their 2010 racing season on Friday night at the Lincoln Speedway. 36 Late Models were in attendance with Jason Feger setting quick time with a new track record of 12.441 seconds. Sheppard Car Crushing Heat Race 1 was won by Feger over Brandon Sheppard and Cory Daugherty. Shannon Babb took the win in Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge Heat Race 2 followed by Ryan Unzicker and Brian Harris. Pick A Part Indy Heat Race 3 was won by Steve Sheppard Jr. over Steve Lance Jr. and Kevin Weaver. The final heat, Double H Crane Service and Porta Pottie Rental Heat Race 4, was won by Brian Shirley with Rich Bell and Charley Hess to follow.The re-draw for the feature starting positions would see Sheppard Jr. and Unzicker on row one, Bell and Lance in row two, Shirley and Babb in row three, and Feger and Sheppard in row four. The first of two semi-features was on track when the rain hit putting a halt to the nights action.
